Polycarbonate vs. glass for a solar arch
A Sophab's arch is clad in multiwall and solid polycarbonate rather than glass — and there are good reasons for that.
Light, tough, and warm
Polycarbonate passes most of the sunlight while weighing a fraction of glass, so the structure that holds it can be lighter and cheaper. Multiwall sheets trap air for insulation, it flexes to the arch's curve, and it shrugs off hail and impacts that would shatter glass. The lower third — where people are close — uses clear solid sheet for a cleaner view.
The result is a shell that's affordable, durable in a Maritime climate, and easy for local crews to install.
